DDO goes to freemium model

DDO - Dungeons and Dragons Online - announced that they will be going to a free-to-play model with VIP and a la carte options. Boiled down, it means the basic game will be free, but if you want any extras, you'll have to pay. You can check out an article on Massively here.

DDO wasn't a bad MMO, the biggest thing working against it was the environment. If they had made it open world like LOTRO then it would have rocked.

It'll be interesting to see how this model works for them. Will enough people be willing to pay real coin to play a drow or a monk?
