Star Wars The Musical?

Has George Lucas opened the fifth seal and heralded the impending apocalypse by signing off on a Star Wars musical? While this article makes it sound like it's just an orchestra concert set to clips from the movie, others such as this one talks about dancing stormtroopers and singing wookiees.

I have a bad feeling about this.

George, is nothing sacred?

Clerk takes axe to robber

I bet that bozo will think twice before he goes to rob some place again.

And in Ozzistan, the axe-wielding clerk would be given a medal.

New Wolverine trailer

X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE HD

I can deal with them playing loose with "continuity", seeing as the X-Men movies already have established a different continuity than the comics, but did they have to put in the diamond White Queen?

Also, it looks like they are straying more from the traditional Wolverine hair, though since we accept Hugh Jackman as Wolverine it's less noticeable than if this had been the first movie.

All that being said, I am encouraged and looking forward to seeing this. Snikt!

People's Choice Awards - 2009

Not the usual kind of subject you would see on this blog, but I'm bringing up the PCA for a good reason. One of the nominees under user generated videos is John Williams A Capella, and one of the nominees under favorite online sensation is Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog.

You can't let Paris Hilton beat Dr. Horrible. Go and vote. What would Hammer do?

John Williams a capella live (by original artists)

Yes, I was disappointed to learn that the "original" video was a lip synch, though done with the blessings of the original artists. I still think that Cory, who made the lip synch video, did a great job and did a better visual presentation, but these are the original artists and it is live. Plus bonus points for one of the references at the end.

Terminator Salvation trailer

I have to wonder if they are tying this at all to the Sarah Connor Chronicles. I doubt it, given the fluid nature of tv, but it would be neat to see some sort of nod for us SCC fans (which remains an awesome show, btw).

*Real* Ale

I never knew there was a difference between "real" ale and not real ale. Evidently it has to do with the yeast still being alive, as opposed to the dead beers we are used to here.

10 Things Every Gamer Should Do

I stumbled across this article over on the RPG Bloggers Network. Scanning the list, I am pretty sure I've done all 10 items. The only questionable ones are whether I've played 10 different genres and 20 different systems, but if not then I'm close.

Lay-offs at WotC

News broke that Wizards of the Coast, the Hasbro subsidiary that produces Dungeons and Dragons, made some significant layoffs today. Affected people include:

Randy Buehler (VP of digital gaming)
Andrew Finch (director of digital games)
Stacy Longstreet (senior art director)
Julia Martin (editor)
William Meyers (creative manager, digital design)
Dave Noonan (game designer)
Jennifer Paige (online community manager)
Jennifer Powers (marketing)
Jonathan Tweet (game designer)

A lot of info can be found here, including remarks by Dave Noonan.

As usual when something like this occurs, there are those prophesying doom and gloom and those readying torches and pitchforks.

While I don't have any inside info, my guesses would be along the following:

DDI and WotC's whole digital initiative is taking too long and to much resources to become productive.

The gaming industry as a whole is suffering. I overheard it at GenCon. How well does D&D and its ilk compete for the attention (and dollars) of the ADD generation, especially against video and computer games?

Finally, it's the economy. A lot of people are losing jobs, and a lot more will as companies find they have less money to work with both as credit dries up and consumers get more conservative.

But I really feel sorry for the folks that lost their jobs, especially three weeks before Christmas.
